Best friends

A couple days ago we went to best friends animal sanctuary. We had to drive for four hours until we got there. Before we got to Best Friends we stopped at Pipe Springs. We did a Junior Ranger paper about what we saw and learned. We were at Pipe Springs for almost two hours. We all had a great time. Once we were back on the road we we were all excited to get to Best Friends.

When we got there we went to our cottage. Our cottage was nice and comfortable. We had to run to the store to get some things. That night we had bean dip. After dinner we had three cookies and watched a movie about Dogtown. When it was time for bed my mom and dad were on the pull out bed and I was on a bed by myself, but Chayton and Nazeriah had to sleep together.

In the morning we ate breakfast. Everyone had oatmeal beside me. My stomach was not feeling good so I had a little bit. A little bit later we went to the welcome center to wait for our tour. Our tour was around the whole place so it was about an hour. We got to stop at a building at Cat world and Dogtown to meet some of the animals. We all had a good time on the tour.

After the tour we went to lunch. For lunch it was Mac' n' cheese, salad, and dessert. It was a yummy lunch. After lunch we went to start our work with the cats!

In Cat world we went to the head building to see where we would work. We worked in Colonel's Barrack's . We got to go in 7 rooms and play with all of the cats. There was a cat that looked just like Cari.

Some cat's like to go on your lap like this cat. He curled up on my lap and started to purr loudly. He was adorable. He was one of the newer cats so you would think that he wold be scared of you. We'll that was not at all true for this little cuddle cutie.

At 3:30 we all picked out a cat together to go on a sleepover. We picked a cat named Kazoo. He has never been on a sleepover before so we were the first people to take him.

When we brought him to our cottage he went up on top of the cabinets and meowed a whole lot. After dinner Nazeriah and Chayton went into our bedroom. My Mom, Dad and I finally got Kazoo down and let me tell you he is a cuddle bunny. He was very happy until we went to bed. When we were trying to sleep he would meow. He ended up meowing all night long we didn't get a lot of sleep, but it was still fun to have a cat over for a sleepover.

If you ever go to Best Friends and these cat's are still there you sould really think about adopting them.

Camping

Today we went camping at the Great Smokey Mountains. We had to drive 4 hours to get to our campsite. It felt like a long time in the small car we had. When we got to the Smokey Mountains we had to check then go to our camp ground to set up our tent. Our dad got a tent that could fit 8 people so we were good. The tent was kind of hard to put up. It took a long time, but when we got it up we were all happy.

After the tent was up we unpacked the car and started to make dinner. For dinner we had beans and rice. We had a small portable stove so we could cook on it. Dinner took a little bit, but it was so good and warm.

When we were done we had to clean our bowl with our napkin so we wouldn't have to use so much water to wash dishes. After we cleaned up we started a fire to roast marshmallows. When the fire was going we got are marshmallows out and we started to roast them. They were so yummy.

When we were done we sat outside to watch the sun go down. Then a ranger came and told us that a show about the history of the Smokey Mountains was taken place at 8:00pm. It was very very interesting. Then we went back to the tent and went to bed. It was sooo cold at night.

In the morning we had oatmeal for breakfast and we all talked that we should go home today instead of tomorrow because it would be so cold - below freezing. It was a good idea to go home.

Then after breakfast we went on a 2 mile walk with a ranger and it was very nice. We got to see two deer and so many trees and leaves. It was so beautiful and amazing. After the walk we headed back to our car. When we got to the car we went to a camp store and got hot chocolate because it was so cold. Then we started to go home. We all had a great time.

Hagia Sophia

Today we went to the Hagia Sophia.

On our way to the Hagia Sophia I stopped to pet a cat outside of our hotel. The kitty sat on Chayton's lap and then mine! He was the sweetest street cat that I have ever seen and so soft. After we gave that cat some love we started towards the Hagia Sophia.

On the way, we stopped at the sarcophagi of the sultans that is next to Hagia Sofia. When we were there my dad saw that Chayton's eye was red and puffy. He thought it was an allergic reaction. We had to find a pharmacy to get special eye drops for his eyes. Then it was time for lunch.

After we had lunch we finally got to the Hagia Sophia. :)

The Hagia Sophia's history is both Christian and Muslim. From 360 to 1453 it was the cathedral of Constantinople (now called Istanbul). The Hagia Sophia was the largest cathedral in the entire world for more than a thousand years.

The first thing I saw in the Hagia Sophia was the mosaic of Tugra. A Tugra is a calligraphic seal or signature of an Ottoman sultan. He would us it to sign all his official documents and letters. The seal that we saw was made out of little pieces of tile that had gold and black.

The picture below is of One of the angels that are painted on the dome. There are four angels, one at each of the four corners. Two of the angels have their faces covered and the other two have faces. The faces were covered when the cathedral was turned into a mosque. They covered the face with a big metal star. The face is covered because the religion of Islam does not allow pictures of living things or the creations of God in their sacred place.

All around the dome are special circle-shaped plaques that are humongous. They are the names of  important people of Islam. Here is a photo of two of them.

This is me putting my thumb inside a hole. It is said that if you spin it in a full circle your wish will come true.

Istanbul

Today we got to Istanbul. On the plane I read and played on my iPad. It was an hour plane ride and was fun. When we got to the airport we saw some of the Vurals waiting for us. When we got to the apartment we waited to see the Ilyada, Selda and Okan. When they arrived we all ate dinner and talked about the plane ride to Turkey.

The night was long and we probably went to bed at 1:00 in the morning. Ilayda, Nazeriah and I talked and talked all night. We all were having fun.

The next day we walked to the metro to go to a ferry to go to a town on the Asian side of Turkey. We ate lunch and then did some shopping at the market stands. Then it was special treat time - ice cream! Soon it was time to get back onto the ferry to go back home. It was so late we ate dinner ate a restaurant on the way back to the apartment. The day was great and we went to bed late again.

Here are some pics.

Beach in Athens

Today we went to the beach. We all had a great time together. We got to take the tram to get to the beach. It was a long time on the tram, but Nazeriah and I made string bracelets. It was fun making the string bracelets.

When we got to the beach we went to get a spot close to the water. The sand was very, very hot. We had to go fast so we wouldn't hurt our feet. But my mom still burnt the bottoms of her feet it was so hot. The water was very cold. I didn't expect it to be that chilly. It took a long time to get used  to the water, but when we did Nazeriah and I had a great time playing. Nazeriah and I then got out and sat on our towel to warm up.

Next thing we knew the waves got really big and started to come up to where we were sitting. We had to move fast so my mom and dads backpacks wouldn't get all wet. Chayton and I then went back  in the water together to play in the huge waves. The waves keep pushing us out of the water. We were laughing and having a great time.
Then we started to go home, but instead of going home my mom and dad surprised us by taking us to  Smile. Smile is a restaurant. The food was great. I got a greek salad and a pizza. It was so yummy. :)

Out and about in Athens

Today we did a lot of things.

First we went to the flea market. We took the Metro to the market. The train station was very nice. It was very clean and not very crowded.

When we got to the market Nazeriah and I saw a person who would put our names in Greek one a neckless or bracelet. But at the same time, Chayton had to go to the bathroom. Luckily my mom said that Nazeriah and I could look at the stand while Chayton and my dad went to the bathroom. At the stand you could get an name for 6 euros. Nazeriah and I got our name done In a necklace. My name in greek is spelled Kaia.

Then we went to Hadrian's Library. It was an all purpose kind of building. They used it for a theatre,a meeting room and a library. It was very big, but if you think about it the section for the actually library is kind of small. It was still very big if everything was together. Here  are some pics.

Next we went to Ancient Agora. We got to see the Stoa of Attalos. It is a big building that is kind of like the Panthnon, but bigger and longer.

After that we saw the Temple of Hephaistos. I can't really explain it very well, but I can tell you that it was very beautiful.

Finally we started to walk home, but we stopped at a restaurant called Chocolate.  We ordered a plate with 4 hamburgers, 4 grilled chicken pieces, mozzarella sticks, and 4 egg rolls. It tasted so good. Then we got back on are way to home again. We got home and my mom started to make dinner. I was tired so I just read.

The Acropolis

Today we went to the Acropolis. We saw tons of amazing things. This is how the day started.

First we all got up at around 8:00am. We wanted to walk up to the acropolis before it got really, really hot. We ate breakfast kinda slow - everyone was tired. Outside it was very nice. It wasn't too hot or to cold. We all enjoyed the walk to the Acropolis.

When we did make it to the Acropolis we already had our tickets so we could skip the line. Yea!

Next we started to walk up the Acropolis. We got to see lot of neat stuff that were still in good shape after a long time under ground or up above the dirt. We had a great time walking up the big hill. we got to see an old theater and lots of old stones.

Finally we got up to the top of the Acropolis. It was an amazing view of the whole town. The Parthenon is under constant "constructon." It is under construction because they are still finding new treasure and makeing constant repairs. It is so amazing to think that there is still hidden secrets in this town that are waiting to be discovered.

Fact about the Parthenon :
The name Parthenon refers to the worship of Athena, the goddess and patroness of the city of Athens.
One of the most popular historical structures in the world is the Parthenon. The Parthenon is a temple on the Athenian Acropolis, Greece. This temple was dedicated to Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom.
Construction of the Parthenon started in 447 BCE and was completed in 438 BCE but decorations of the temple continued until 432 BC.
The Parthenon is the most important surviving building of Classical Greece and is regarded as one of the greatest cultural monuments in the world.

On are way to see the " Old Temple " of Athena I got to pet a cat. The cat started to lick me on my hand. She had a rough little tongue. She was so cute.

We got to the "Old Temple" of Athena. It was halfway destroyed.
Then we started to go down to go home.
